Dominican Republic Government
Government
The Dominican Republic has had a democratic system with presidential elections every 4 years since 1966. The government is divided into three powers: the executive power (the president and his cabinet), the legislative power (Congress and the Chamber of Deputies) and the judicial power (Court and judges).
Official Currency
The Dominican Peso is the official currency of the Dominican Republic. The exchange rate fluctuates some but is generally pegged to the U.S. dollar. We recommend exchanging as little of your money as possible because often it is impossible to exchange back to your original currency. U.S. dollars are easily and gratefully accepted for most transactions.
